Retrograde

by: Angel

no puzzle piece fits
the jigsaw of my coronary arteries.

my amphetamine-filled bones get me high
on pretending a perfect laugh and smile will
catapult me out of my evergreen misery.

my SOS ricochets from loud to dim,
the white walls of this prison room
pulsing
as they mock my skull into retrograde.

my trigger happy fingers itch
to implode the rows of dynamite around my life
the fire in my soul roaring ablaze as the
hatred in my heart swells open,
the doom within drowning me in catatonic crisis.

I stare at the screen,
the change that could be,
deperate to weather the storm inside me—

It shall pass, I say to myself,
then flinch as the lie
slaps my face with its spiked cactus palm.

the loss of sanity occured when my ex
vomited rationality into a bucket last night,
the sirens from the ambulance blaring
like world war two air raid alarms —

so i'm writing poetry during the witching hour,
hoping those beyond the veil will hear me.
